Omax3 and Me

You all know that Heart Health is kind of a big deal in my life. Have I told you that even though I’ve been working on being healthy the last two years, my HDL is not great. That means I’m struggling with GOOD Cholesterol, which is kind of scary for me. When I was asked if I’d be interested in reviewing omax-3, I decided it was probably a good idea.

While omax-3 Ultra-Pure Omega-3 is a  supplement aimed at delivering essential fatty acids to help reduce LDL (the “bad” cholesterol), it’s still going to help me. Physicians affiliated with Yale University developed this supplement for adults ages 12 and up. It helps improve heart health, musculoskeletal health, and managing inflammation.

(Basically, as a runner, I should totally be taking 2 softgels a day to help keep my heart, muscles, and bones happy and healthy.)

When I first heard about omax-3 Ultra-Pure Omega, this is what I was told:

It’s estimated that only one in four Americans are getting sufficient amounts of omega-3s from their diets, while getting an overabundance of omega-6 fatty acids (see here for more info: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2b46yLkYOO4) . This is due to several obstacles, including a dislike of or lack of availability of fish, the prime source of EPA and DHA omega-3s, or concerns about seafood contaminants.

Uh? Dislike of fish? HELLO, ME!!! When I first learned my HDL was an issue, the nurse said, “Lose Weight. Start exercising three times a week. Eat fish”. Check, check, no way. I am in that group of people who do not like fish and thus the whole “boost your omega-3 fatty acids) thing is not going to go over so well.

Enter omax-3. These softgels, yes, contain fish (full disclosure, the package says “anchovies and sardines”) and will help with my heart health issues. No fish eating necessary, because omax-3 delivers Omega-3 in the purest form (with a concentration of over 91% Omega-3 fatty acids).

Studies on omax-3 have shown that:

  • 78% of participants reduced overall cholesterol by 13%
  • 73% of participants reduced triglycerides by 31%
  • 71% of participants reduced LDL or “bad” cholesterol by 11%

Easy Cabbage Rolls for Pappy

Today is my 2nd recipe entry for the RedPack Tomato contest I wrote about yesterday. This recipe is one of my dad’s favorite meals, and since we are trying to eat healthy, I decided to give it a healthy spin. Here’s the original, followed by my heart healthy adaptation. This might have to be something I pull together for a night at Grandma’s soon!

Recipe

Easy Cabbage Rolls for Pappy adpated from “Lazy Day Cabbage Rolls”

2 cans tomato soup and 2 cans water
1 can tomato paste
1 head cabbage, cubed
1 lb. ground turkey
1 cup cooked brown rice
1 small onion, chopped
1/4 cup egg beaters
“No” Salt (light, to taste)

Heat tomato soup, water, and tomato paste in a large pan. Add cabbage cubes.
In a separate bowl, combine turkey, rice, onion, egg, and a pinch of salt.
Add the meat mixture to the heated tomato mixture and cook about an hour on medium heat (stove top).

This is similar to a casserole and includes a good amount of veggies and lean meat for your heart. Delicious!
