Last Thursday night, we took Lil Man to the doctor to for his four month appointment and his booster shots. Typical of our style, we were rushing out of the door for no reason–we waited almost 50 minutes in the waiting room for an evening appointment.

When we did get to see the doctor, she gave us her typical style, saying hello to the kids, calling them both by name (ok, maybe she reviews a chart before she walks in, but our doctor REALLY knows our kids), and removing the irritation I had due to the lateness of the day.

She takes a peek at Lil Man who smiles and laughs at her touch. Everything looks good, things are going very smooth.

Then, she logs into the computer and assesses his height (good growth) and head circumference (excellent). With a frown, she turns to us and says his weight is not where they’d like it to be–this “Lil Man” is underweight for his age and height. What? MY kid is underweight AGAIN? Are we really going down this road again? He eats whenever he wants, as long as he wants, and as much as he wants. Are you kidding?

Her suggestions–more feedings, and start him on cereal. Great, we wanted to start him on cereal anyways. But the fact that he is considered underweight and looks and feels very healthy to us is irritating. I know the charts, but I also know my kiddos. We have to go back for another weight check in a month to see what the “next steps” will be. Hopefully he’ll ease right up where he needs to be without too much struggle.

4 Month Data:
Head: 16.5″ (up 2″ since birth)
Height: 24.75″ (up 3.5″ since birth)
Weight: 12 lbs 6 ounces (up 3 lbs 5 oz since birth)

I am posting this a little early today–I am off for the afternoon because I go for my vertigo/balance test in an hour. If you have a moment, send up some thoughts and prayers that they will uncover what is troubling me. If I feel ok afterwards, I plan on coming home and posting about Evan’s first taste of food, otherwise, you will hear more on that Thursday. <3

  1. Dylan was always underweight for his height/age. he still is. He eats from the time he gets up till the time he goes to bed! His height is off the charts. Don’t worry about it dear. As long as his eating habits aren’t on the downward spiral, he’s perfectly fine. If you need to talk, you know my number.
