What is on YOUR Valentine’s list this year?

Giveaway for The Picket Fence: Pittsburgh Baby Stores

*articles may contain affiliate links* This post, The Picket Fence: Pittsburgh Baby Stores, is one such post.

Okay, we forgot to call me out for not posting that the twins are 21 months old? Hint, the answer is yinz all did. How did we let another month pass up? Next thing you know, these two will be off to college and this ‘lil blog will be a thing of the “ancient” past. But for real, there are only two more monthly posts for these baby milestones left, sigh.

But I’m not going to lie, as I’ve been checking out the goodies over at The Picket Fence (a Pittsburgh baby store), I’m almost tempted to keep posting monthlies of the twinnies in all the cute things.

Because seriously, yinz. Please try to convince me these shirts aren’t winners.

the Picket FenceIt’s tough work trying to get them to cooperate for these milestone photos. Things were “easy” back when they were just itty bitty babies! I mean, back then I didn’t have a ‘lil Yinzer yelling at me for interrupting ‘Momo’ time.

picketfence_2

But back when things were “easy” with these milestones, her ‘lil sister wasn’t rocking the ‘Bradshaw’…

picketfence_3

…and we didn’t have the sweet voices in the morning of twin language (which is totally a real thing – they talk to each other differently than they do to us)…or wrestling baby fights…or “Sissy Baby I-ya” being said over and over over over…and said Sissy wasn’t coloring on all the things while her ‘lil big sister was begging mommy for “Diet Coke” (which is really my water with a straw, but Ava’s favorite thing to say)…or so many more adorable things.

Ah, twinnies. Another milestone down, which means we are that much closer to another birthday. Might be time for me to get back to browsing Picket Fence for some more cute things for you! xoxo

A ‘lil more about Picket Fence: Pittsburgh baby stores like this have a lot to offer ‘lil Burghers’ clothing needs. The Picket Fence is an adorable boutique with clothes for kids and women, as well as unique gifts. They are located on Walnut Street in Shadyside, PA and offer online shopping (which is how I ordered the onesies for this post). Check out what other ‘Burghers are picking as their favorites over on Instagram with #FenceFaves.

Visited their site and see something you loveYou’re in luck. I am giving away $50 to spend online at The Picket Fence. Giveaway ends January 21 at 11:59 PM. Good luck!

Picture Keeper Connect Review and Giveaway

*articles may contain affiliate links* This post is a partnership with Picture Keeper Connect.

picture keeper

As many times as I am “connected” to my phone, I am not connected enough. That became clear when I learned about Picture Keeper Connect at Blogger Bash in July. I’d just gotten a new phone because my old one was overheating. During the event, I had plans to share pictures with some of the brands, but alas, I didn’t have the pictures because new phone, so I was a bit devastated.

I was lucky – when I got home, I realized I’d backed them up via my cloud and most where double backed up on an external hard drive; however, it could have been really bad. This is where the Picture Keeper Connect comes into play.

What is Picture Keeper Connect?

This is a device that’s used to backup photos, videos, and contacts from your phone. It plugs directly into your device in the charging port (if you have an iDevice) or via a USB connector (if you are Android, like me). It puts your important memories right on the device (paired with the Picture Keeper Connect App) as a means of backing up your photos. I’ll stress, you should always double back up, so my suggestion is the PKC and a cloud storage solution, like Photos.

Why do I need Picture Keeper Connect?

Stuff happens. Right? This is a great device to keep on hand because it is:

  • Convenient (plug in when you want to back it up, have the app remind you when it is time!)
  • Easy to use (just get the free App and plug in the USB)
  • Secure to hold your memories
  • A way to free up space on your phone of 16, 32, or 64 GB worth of memories
Picture Keeper Connect
My Picture Keeper Connect hard at work!

Those are pretty good-to-have features when it comes to the tech that’s going to keep your memories at hand, aren’t they? I love it because I am really bad about remembering to hook my phone up to the computer and get the pictures off (see what happened to me in July). This makes it so simple, a busy mom could do it! Kidding aside, it really is simple and fast.

Lesson learned: Have your phone fully charged if this is your first backup. Over 1200 photos in (of 1300), my phone shut down because I started with a tiny percent of battery. Yes, I read the instructions. No, I didn’t listen, hence I am warning you!

What do I once I have one?

Use it. Back up your photos! Once you have, your photos are on a USB which you can connect to other devices to access once your device of choice bites the dust or you move on up. Take the Connect to a photo kiosk and print your favorite photos. Grab another one because you take way too many photos (like me, hint).

What do I need to do to get one?

One, enter my giveaway below. The folks at Picture Keeper want to be sure you’re connecting, so they offered to provide one of you with a Connect. (Awesome, right?!?!) This giveaway runs for two weeks through August 23 at 11:59 PM and is open to US Residents.

Aren’t into giveaways or missed this post until it was too late? Check out Picture Keeper’s online shop to get the Connect starting at $79.99 for the 16GB that I tested out, and use my promo code, lilburghers20, to save 20% and get FREE shipping by shopping here.

Gifts for Men: JORD Wood Watch

*articles may contain affiliate links* This post, Gifts for Men: JORD Wood Watch, is one such review post.

gifts for men JORD Wood Watch

We all know that guy. The one who when it comes time to buy a gift for, you really don’t know what to get. You try really hard to find unique gifts for holidays like Father’s Day, but it is nearly impossible. Please tell me it’s not just me.

This year, I had some help finding Greg a Father’s Day gift. The JORD Wood Watch is one of those gifts for men that is just right for that guy who has everything. I say this, and my husband is the one who broke his last watch five years ago break-dancing so…you really need to trust me.

wood watch

Okay, I just admitted that my husband broke his last watch yet I gifted him a wood watch for Father’s Day. That’s right. When I saw the Ebony & Rosewood watch in the DOVER series, I just knew it was something he’d actually take care of and wear with pride. His first reaction was that it would be reserved for big things (like weddings – except the break dancing sessions, funerals, and poker nights), but he’s come to LOVE his watch and wear it around the kids and when he’s admiring all the hard work he’s put into his garden (but not while working in it!).

While I was browsing the watch options (and trying to pick just one…), I came across this value of JORD:

TELLING MORE THAN TIME

The value of a watch is not in being able to tell how much time has passed, but in being aware of the need to make that time count. Moments are bigger than minutes and your watch should tell more than time.

That’s why I picked the watch I did. It is sleek yet contrasting, a watch the will stand out and be a reminder to Greg to live in the moment he’s in, making the moments count. Watching the movements of the gears between the black background and crystal clear glass, I hope he’ll make big moments happen with us for a long time to come.

TORUK The First Flight

*articles may contain affiliate links* Today’s post shares information on TORUK The First Flight.

Have you ever seen a Cirque du Soleil show? How about the movie, AVATAR? I’ll be honest, I haven’t…but this is going to be a summer of some firsts because my family will be taking in the sights and sounds of Cirque right here in Pittsburgh! From June 22-26, 2016, CONSOL Energy Center will welcome TORUK – The First Flight, a new Cirque du Soleil touring show inspired by AVATAR.

TORUK The First Flight

TORUK The First Flight

We’ll be transported to Pandora, a world that inspires imagination, discovery, and possibility. (Sounds just like what I want the kids to do this summer – right?) This show is set thousands of years before AVATAR:

When a natural catastrophe threatens to destroy the sacred Tree of Souls, Ralu and Entu, two Omaticaya boys on the brink of adulthood, fearlessly decide to take matters into their own hands. Upon learning that Toruk can help them save the Tree of Souls, they set out, together with their newfound friend Tsyal, on a quest high up in the Floating Mountains to find the mighty red and orange predator that rules the Pandoran sky. Prophecy is fulfilled when a pure soul rises among the clans to ride Toruk for the first time and save the Na’vi from a terrible fate.

-Media Release

Admittedly, I was intrigued, so I headed over to the TORUK website. There, among lots of great show information,  I found this video that literally took my breath away with excitement (and wonder – how will they transform my favorite ice rink into Pandora?!?!):

Right? Right. This is going to be awesome. I hope you’ll join us in taking in this show. (If you’re interested, please enter my giveaway at the bottom of this post!)

A few details about the Pittsburgh tour stop:

Fun Facts about TORUK  The First Flight:

  • The show’s performance area is based on the Fibonacci spiral. This shape is determined by the ancient number sequence in which each number is the sum of the two preceding numbers. It is said that botanists on Pandora have recognized this mathematical pattern in many botanical specimens with a fiddle-head shape. If one were to place the design of the Fibonacci spiral on the the Tree of Souls would be in the exact spot at the heart of the spiral.
  • Some costumes are made with parts of hammocks.
  • There are 115 costumes in the show, an average of 3.3 costumes per artist. The costume department produced more than 1,000 items in all, including shoes, headpieces and necklaces.
  • During the scene in the Hallelujah Mountains, the 64,5-square-foot giant traction kite flies out over the audience. Spectators sitting up close can feel the gust of wind the kite makes as it whooshes by overhead.

Ready for the giveaway? As the Na’Vi would say, Ngaru fl’ut! (Here it is!):

In an effort to bring audience members involvement to a whole new level, Cirque du Soleil will be launching a first-of- its-kind app for TORUK – The First Flight.  Working with long-time technology partner SAP, the app will enhance the overall show experience and enable audience members to be a part of the action before, during and after the performance! The app can be downloaded from here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/toruk-the- first-flight/id1060239115?mt=8

Giveaway Hosted by Parenting Healthy

This is the time of year to get your summer learning plan together. Ughh…summer learning! Don’t they deserve a break? That was always my thought before my son was school age. They do get a break because keeping that summer bridge learning does not involve dropping them off at 9am to a school for 6.5 hours 5 days a week. I have my son do 1 hour of learning activities in the mornings-after some cartoons but before the appropriate time to knock on neighbor friends doors to play for the day. In the evening we do a fun learning page in workbooks or I have him write about his day in 3-5 sentences and we do that together as part of our bedtime routine. That time means the world to keeping his brain working at his grade level and keeps his retention strong.

The Carson-Dellosa learning activities for summer have everything you need to put a regimen together in you home whether you have a preschooler or one heading to High School. If your child is older, Carson-Dellosa has learning aids for the High Schoolers as well. It’s all there and you can search for learning books by age, need/subject or themes.

Summer Bridge Learning Selections

  • Summer Bridge Activities: Pre-K to Grade 8
  • Summer Bridge Explorations: Pre-K to Grade 4
  • Summer Quest: Pre-K to Grade 8
  • Summer Bridge Workbooks: Pre-K to Grade 6

This post is all about Summer Bridge Activities for that gap between grade changes. My son is heading into third grade so I have grade 2/3 activities books for him. It has some refreshers from second grade learning and prepares him for 3rd grade skills. They also include a summer reading list with suggested titles for books at this grade level. Reading is a great daily activity and I highly recommend at the very least you have them read 20+ minutes a day so they do not fall behind as statistics show they will-up to 2 months behind. However, adding the ongoing practice of comprehension activities and math and science, they can feel as confident as ever when that new year begins and learning continues.

Right now you can save up to 25% on these learning tools so visit the links now!

1 lucky reader will win one Summer Bridge Activity learning set from Carson Dellosa. It includes the grade level of your choice in the following 3 books: Summer Bridge Activities, Summer Bride Explorations and Summer Quest Workbook. If the winner has children in higher grades, we can accommodate.
Enter below. Ends on May and open to US. Good luck!
